Ever spent more time deciding what to watch on Netflix than actually watching something? Well, Netflix seems determined to fix that problem.

The streaming giant has introduced AI Discover, a new artificial intelligence (AI) powered tab that recommends movies and TV shows based on viewers' moods, interests, and available time.

However, the feature is currently being tested with a limited group of subscribers in the United States.

TL;DR

  • Netflix has launched AI Discover, a new TV app tab offering mood-based movie and show recommendations.
  • Viewers can explore themes, refine suggestions, and remove titles they don't want recommended again.
  • The feature uses AI to adapt recommendations based on real-time feedback.
  • The initial rollout is limited to English-language Netflix users on supported TVs in the US.

Netflix's AI Discover Lets Viewers Find Shows Based On Their Mood

Netflix already offers personalized recommendations based on viewing preferences, titles added to My List, and content receiving a Thumbs Up.

However, its latest feature takes a different approach by allowing users to influence recommendations based on what they feel like watching at that moment.

The new AI-powered discovery experience begins with selectable themes accompanied by short clips from movies or TV shows.

These include "Something Light," "Scare Me," "Family Movie Night," and "Quick Watches," covering everything from emotional preferences to the amount of viewing time available.

Other themes may highlight trending releases, newly available content, or titles related to a subscriber's recent viewing activity.

Once viewers choose a theme, Netflix presents relevant titles and offers more specific categories to help narrow the selection. Alternatively, selecting "Something Different" generates another set of recommendations.

Interestingly, the feature aligns with the growing emphasis on AI-powered personalization in media and entertainment, although Netflix is now putting more control directly into viewers' hands.

Netflix Uses Real-Time AI Feedback To Improve Personalized Recommendations

Perhaps the most interesting part of AI Discover is that viewers can actively influence what the platform recommends instead of relying entirely on previously collected preferences.

Each suggested title includes a "Tune Your Recommendations" button alongside the existing Play and My List options.

This allows users to retain recommendations they like or tell Netflix not to suggest particular titles again within AI Discover.

According to Netflix's official announcement, the experience runs on a new intelligence layer that responds to user feedback in real time and continuously learns from those interactions.

AI also helps generate the themes displayed within the tab, while Netflix provides explanations for its recommendations.

The functionality could make content discovery more responsive to immediate preferences rather than depending exclusively on established viewing patterns.

Netflix Begins Limited AI Discover Rollout On Supported TVs In The US

For now, Netflix is treating AI Discover as an experimental environment where subscribers' interactions and feedback will influence future improvements.

The company may eventually incorporate successful discovery features into its main streaming experience, although no specific expansion timeline has been announced for those integrations.

AI Discover began rolling out on November 3, 2026, to a small group of US subscribers using Netflix in English on supported televisions.

Eligible viewers can identify the feature through a Discover tab marked with a red gem icon and a New label in the TV app's top navigation.

Netflix expects to expand access gradually over the coming weeks, but has not confirmed a broader international rollout.

For now, the experiment represents a shift toward helping subscribers find something worth watching based on what they want right now, rather than simply what they enjoyed before.
