Anthropic In Talks To Buy Decart AI In Reported $6 Billion Deal
Updated on Thu, Aug 13, 2026
Anthropic is reportedly in early-stage talks to acquire Nvidia-backed artificial intelligence (AI) startup Decart AI in a deal that could be worth around $6 billion, potentially strengthening the Claude maker's AI infrastructure and computing capabilities.
TL;DR
- Anthropic is reportedly in early-stage talks to acquire Decart AI, although neither company has announced a deal.
- Bloomberg reportedly put the potential transaction at around $6 billion, while Reuters independently confirmed the talks.
- Decart develops AI models and the Decart Optimization Stack, which helps improve inference and training performance across different AI chips.
According to Reuters, Anthropic is exploring an acquisition of Decart as it looks for ways to meet growing demand for its AI services. Bloomberg News first reported the discussions and said the potential deal could be worth around $6 billion.
However, the discussions remain at an early stage and may not result in a transaction. An Anthropic spokesperson declined to comment to Reuters, while Decart did not immediately respond to the publication's request for comment.
If the deal is completed, Decart's team would reportedly join Anthropic's inference and performance organization.
Why Could Anthropic Want Decart AI?
At first glance, Decart may seem like an unusual acquisition target for the maker of Claude.
The startup has developed Lucy, a generative AI model capable of editing live video in real time, alongside Oasis, a world model built to generate simulated environments for robotics and autonomous systems. However, Decart's underlying infrastructure technology may be the more significant attraction for Anthropic.
At the center of Decart's portfolio is the Decart Optimization Stack, an inference and training platform built to improve the performance and efficiency of AI workloads.
Decart says DOS can run across Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs, Amazon Trainium, AMD hardware, and other accelerators. The company pitches the technology as a way for AI developers to reduce latency and computing costs while extracting more performance from existing hardware.
Its latest DOS 2.0 platform supports large language models, AI agents, video models, and world models. Decart claims it can deliver more than 1,600 tokens per second for agentic inference, compared with an industry average of around 200 tokens per second, although these performance figures are company-provided benchmarks.
Decart CEO and co-founder Dean Leitersdorf has also positioned the company's technology beyond conventional language models.
“World models are the key to moving AI from the virtual world into the physical world,” Leitersdorf said when Decart announced its latest funding round in May.
Heavily On AI Compute
The reported talks arrive as Anthropic makes a broader push to secure more computing capacity and improve the efficiency of Claude.
On August 5, Anthropic confirmed that it was building an in-house team to design custom chips for its AI models. The company is hiring engineers across the hardware and software stack to jointly design chips and models that can make Claude faster and more efficient at scale.
Anthropic said it would continue using a diversified hardware strategy spanning Amazon Web Services, Google, Nvidia, and AMD even as it develops custom silicon.
The company also raised $65 billion in May 2026 at a $965 billion post-money valuation. Anthropic said the funding would, among other priorities, help expand computing capacity to meet growing demand for Claude.
“This funding will help us serve the historic demand we are experiencing,” Anthropic Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao said at the time.
Meanwhile, Decart raised $300 million in May in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as an investor. Decart says it has raised more than $450 million in total, while The Wall Street Journal reported that the May round valued the startup at nearly $4 billion.
