Introduction
It is said some lives are linked across time.
Connected by an ancient calling that echoes through the ages.
Destiny.
These were the opening words of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, the action-adventure movie from 2010.
They were also the closing words of the movie, but without “Destiny,” since that concept was drenched in the movie’s storyline. The plot follows Prince Dastan’s quest to save his reputation, his father’s legacy, and his entire kingdom from the nefarious plans of evil people.
While the first movie was thoroughly enjoyable, unfortunately, there was no sequel.
The same can’t be said about the game. Prince of Persia is one of the oldest video games out there, debuting in 1989. Since then, there have been over 20 iterations of the game, each one offering better graphics, gameplay, and glee. #AlliterationsAreTheBest
The movie itself was based on the game with the same name (2008), which was a big hit on Sony’s PlayStation (PS) 2 and 3. However, that game came out in 2003, and we were looking forward to Prince of Persia version #21, called The Sands of Time; a remake that was set to deliver phenomenal graphical improvements on Sony’s PS4 and PS5.
That was, until Ubisoft officially canceled it on January 21, 2026, after years of development delays and reboots. But don’t fret, because we have a wide range of other games this year!
So, until Prince Dastan finds himself back into our lives, hearts, and consoles, let’s check out what else is popular!
Top PlayStation Titles To Play In 2026
From supernatural survival to comic-book showdowns, these are some of the most compelling PlayStation titles of 2026. We focused on what makes each game worth playing, not just how loudly it was marketed.

Hades II
Platform: PS5
Genre: Action Roguelike
Release Date: April 14, 2026
Developer: Supergiant Games
Price: $29.99
What's It About: There is no shortage of games about battling mythical creatures, but Hades II makes every failed escape feel like progress. Players control Melinoë, Princess of the Underworld, as she takes on the forces of Chronos, the Titan of Time. Each attempt reshuffles challenges, introduces new possibilities, and gradually reveals more of the story.
Fast, responsive combat pairs weapons, blessings from Olympian gods, and witchcraft-inspired abilities. The hand-painted environments and sharp character writing give the loop personality, but its cleverest trick is turning repeated attempts into discoveries rather than chores. The game had an earlier life on other platforms, yet its April PS5 release puts it squarely in this year’s PlayStation selection.
Hype Factor: One of the highest-rated PS5 releases on 2026 critic-score listings, with replayability that goes far beyond its main story.
Resident Evil Requiem
Platform: PS5
Genre: Survival Horror, Action
Release Date: February 27, 2026
Developer: Capcom
Price: $69.99
What's It About: Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem has a remarkably effective double act. FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft approaches danger with limited resources and good reason to run; returning series veteran Leon S. Kennedy has considerably more tools for fighting back. Their intertwined stories revisit the shadow of Raccoon City, but each character changes the way familiar environments feel.
Grace’s sections emphasize vulnerability, tense exploration, and careful inventory decisions, while Leon brings forceful combat, well-timed parries, and a particularly useful hatchet. That rhythm of fear and release gives the game a different identity from simply recreating a classic. It is accessible to newcomers, with enough familiar history for longtime players to appreciate the stakes.
Hype Factor: An unusually successful mix of pure survival horror and confident action, and a February Players’ Choice winner on PlayStation.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Platform: PS5
Genre: Third-Person Action-Adventure
Release Date: September 15, 2026
Developer: Insomniac Games
Price: $69.99
What's It About: After years of anticipation, Marvel’s Wolverine finally put Logan’s adamantium claws in PS5 players’ hands. This original adventure focuses on a mutant whose healing factor makes him formidable but whose past leaves far deeper scars. Familiar figures, including Jean Grey and Sabretooth, enter a story built around his rage and humanity.
Insomniac leans into close-range momentum: claws, kicks, strikes, and finishers make combat aggressive without losing the character’s physical weight. Mission Replay, Nightmare Challenges, and New Game Plus give players reasons to return, while accessibility and content controls offer more ways to tailor the experience.
Hype Factor: A major new PS5 action adventure that trades superhero spectacle for a rougher, more personal style of combat.
SAROS
Platform: PS5 (PS5 Pro enhanced)
Genre: Third-Person Sci-Fi Shooter
Release Date: April 30, 2026
Developer: Housemarque
Price: $69.99
What's It About: In SAROS, Soltari enforcer Arjun Devraj searches a lost colony on the hostile planet Carcosa. The setting is strange enough before a threatening eclipse begins reshaping both the environment and the dangers within it. Rahul Kohli brings Arjun to life in this single-player adventure from the studio behind Returnal.
Housemarque’s signature on-screen projectile patterns demand quick movement, but the game places more emphasis on lasting upgrades. Progress made across runs helps players prepare for the next attempt, and Arjun’s shield can turn enemy attacks into an offensive opportunity. Fast SSD loading, DualSense haptics, and enhanced PS5 Pro presentation make it a particularly apt technical showcase for the console.
Hype Factor: A fast, punishing, and visually distinctive sci-fi experience whose permanent progression makes each return to Carcosa worthwhile.
007 First Light
Platform: PS5
Genre: Stealth, Action-Adventure
Release Date: May 27, 2026
Developer: IO Interactive
Price: $69.99
What's It About: The latest Bond adventure does not ask you to replay a movie you already know. 007 First Light tells an original origin story about a younger James Bond finding his feet in MI6. The agency has the gadgets, the globe-spanning trouble, and the familiar faces, but this Bond still needs to earn the number.
From the studio behind Hitman, the game places stealth and improvisation alongside gunplay, brawling, vehicles, and carefully timed gadget use. Missions reward reading the situation rather than immediately shooting your way through it, even if explosions remain an attractive backup plan. It also made an immediate impact with players, topping May’s PS5 download charts in both the US/Canada and Europe.
Hype Factor: A fresh interpretation of a familiar spy, combining undercover problem-solving with cinematic action.
Nioh 3
Platform: PS5
Genre: Action RPG
Release Date: February 6, 2026
Developer: Team Ninja
Price: $69.99
What's It About: If your idea of relaxation involves losing to an enormous supernatural boss until you learn every attack pattern, Nioh 3 is here to help. Team Ninja’s dark action RPG expands its exploration into open-field environments full of dangerous yokai, rewards, and encounters that are rarely as simple as they look.
The defining change is the ability to switch between Samurai and Ninja styles. One emphasizes powerful exchanges, deflection, and direct confrontation; the other favors mobility and evasive pressure. Players can approach difficult fights in different ways or master their preferred style, with multiplayer options available for those who would rather face the supernatural together. It is demanding without being mechanically one-note.
Hype Factor: The two-style combat system and wider exploration add welcome flexibility to an already formidable action-RPG formula.
PRAGMATA
Platform: PS5 (PS5 Pro enhanced)
Genre: Sci-Fi Action-Adventure, Puzzle Combat
Release Date: April 17, 2026
Developer: Capcom
Price: $59.99
What's It About: A stranded astronaut and a mysterious android might sound like a familiar sci-fi setup, but PRAGMATA uses the partnership as the foundation of its gameplay. Hugh and Diana are trapped at a lunar research facility whose machines have turned hostile. Getting home means staying ahead of its defenses and learning what happened to the station.
Players coordinate Hugh’s shooting and mobility with Diana’s ability to hack hostile robots and expose weak points. Instead of relegating hacking to an occasional minigame, the action asks players to perform it during combat and use it to navigate the facility. After a long development journey, this new Capcom property became one of April’s top PS5 downloads.
Hype Factor: A clever combination of shooting and active hacking that makes teamwork feel essential even in a single-player game.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls
Platform: PS5, PC
Genre: Tag-Team Fighting
Release Date: August 6, 2026
Developer: Arc System Works
Price: $59.99
What's It About: Marvel heroes rarely lack opportunities to save the world, but MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls gives them a different problem: one another. This tag-team fighter reimagines familiar characters with an anime-inspired visual style, dramatic stages, and a roster built for fast exchanges and elaborate combinations.
The appeal goes beyond the superhero license. Arc System Works aims to make basic controls approachable while leaving room for advanced positioning, team composition, and precise execution. Episode Mode gives the cast a story-driven setting, and the fighting mechanics provide plenty for competitive players to study. The game reached No. 2 on the US/Canada PS5 download chart for August, a strong early showing for the genre.
Hype Factor: An accessible entry point to tag fighters with a competitive ceiling that keeps rising as players improve.
Mina the Hollower
Platform: PS5
Genre: Action-Adventure
Release Date: May 29, 2026
Developer: Yacht Club Games
Price: $19.99
What's It About: Not every PlayStation standout needs photorealistic visuals. Mina the Hollower casts players as Mina, a skilled Hollower investigating a cursed island full of sinister creatures and unsettling secrets. Its pixel-art world brings to mind handheld-era adventure games without simply reproducing an old formula.
Mina can burrow beneath the ground, strike with her whip, and use equipment and trinkets to manage the dangers ahead. Exploration rewards curiosity, while demanding bosses test how well you understand the movement and combat systems. The developer’s experience on Shovel Knight shows in the tight controls, strong visual identity, and attention to small details. It is one of 2026’s highest-rated PlayStation releases on critic aggregation lists.
Hype Factor: A charmingly macabre adventure whose tight mechanics and inventive exploration make it more than a retro tribute.

The Final Move
The most interesting thing about PlayStation’s 2026 lineup is how little these games have in common. Hades II turns failure into progress. Resident Evil Requiem alternates helplessness and power. SAROS turns difficult encounters into a test of pattern recognition, while PRAGMATA asks you to think and shoot at the same time. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Wolverine, 007 First Light, and MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls find new angles on characters that hardly need an introduction.
That variety is the real reason to pay attention to this year’s releases. Whether you love a blockbuster, a tactical challenge, or an inventive smaller game, the best PlayStation title is the one that makes you forget to check the clock. Just remember to charge the DualSense.
